Sarah spent her childhood in France, surrounded by art galleries and artists, but the 'doing' only started after early retirement from a career in Cambridge setting up and running a translation business. She met an inspirational Zimbabwean artist who encouraged Sarah to take up oil painting, teaching her to look at the world around her afresh and encouraging her love of colour.
For Sarah painting is a very personal and emotional response to what she sees and perceives of her daily world. In looking at the detail around her, she presents an intimate image of light, form and colour - recollections of moments in time and special places, inspired by pattern and rhythms in space.
As well as painting in oils, Sarah enjoys life drawing and even hosts a class in her garden in the summer … weather permitting! She is a member of Cambridge Drawing Society as well as Cambridge Open Studios and has shown her work at many Cambridge exhibitions.
You can see more examples of Sarah’s work on Cambridge Open Studios’ website. Free COS Guides are available locally at the Shelford Library and various other venues as well as at the Open Studios.
